A rare Qur’an has been presented as a gift to the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan
Within the framework of the international expert forum held in Tashkent, a facsimile copy of one of the priceless treasures of the Timurid era a Qur’an transcribed by the ruler of Shiraz and renowned calligrapher Ibrahim Sultan was presented to the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan.
It is well known that Amir Temur’s successor, Shahrukh, ruled over the territories of Movarounnahr and Khorasan, and that his children paid great attention to science and culture. Among them, Ibrahim Sultan was known not only as a just ruler but also as a calligrapher who left his name in history for his exceptional skill. The Qur’an he transcribed in the muhaqqaq script is considered one of the rarest masterpieces among Timurid manuscripts.
The original of this work is currently preserved in the Astan Quds Razavi Library at the Shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad, Iran. The facsimile copy presented at the forum will further enrich the collections of the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, said Gholamreza Amirkhani, Chairman of the National Library and Archives of Iran.
During the event, a memorandum of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran was also signed. It outlines areas such as the study of manuscripts and facsimile works, experience exchange in the field of publishing, and the establishment of scholarly ties between specialists.
In addition, the memorandum provides for the establishment of an “Islamic Civilization Center Room” in both countries. At present, such a room has already begun operating at the National Library in Tehran, and in the coming days, a similar room of the National Library of Iran is planned to open at the Center for Islamic Civilization.
